I was just wondering if it is safe to use Melafix at full dose with scaleless fish. I'm treating my Synodontis eupterus for some minor injuries.

I'm not in favor of dumping anything in a tank, especially Melafix, unless there's a definite need...

If there's no sign of infection or fungus, let the fish heal themselves, a nature-provided benefit.

Well they didn't seem to be healing on their own...

Use Melafix, full dose, it won't hurt the fish. I've used it myself

"Healing" has to be defined and so does the damage...

Maybe you could explain what the injury looks like and how long the fish has had the sores.

white but not fuzzy and sort of indented around the head mostly. Been there for at least a week. I don't want them to get infected if they aren't already.

I was thinking red open sores...

Apparently that's not the problem.

You can try the Melafix, an anticeptic, but something a little more effective may be required for what sounds like a fungus problem.

white but not fuzzy

Sounds like body "fungus". Medication manufacturers call it "fungus" with the quotation marks because it's referred to as mouth/body "fungus" even though it's bacterial in nature. True fungus is usually more fluffy, looks like cotton, and so on... bacterial "fungus" can be white or grey patches, sometimes slimy looking.

To me it sounds like a bacteria, and I would use Maracyn Plus.

Thanks. If this doesn't heal up with Melafix I'll change the water and try something specifically for bacteria.
