Help. Recently my male betta has been really lathagic and spends most of his time sitting on the bottom of the tank. He does however come up to feed. I've had him for over a year and his health has always been genually good up until now. He started turning white it started with his lips and now his whole front half of his body is white (apart from his eyes). He has had an eventful life. My mum decided to put a jade eye cyclid in the tank ages ago and they started fighting the cyclid winning. We took the cyclid out though and though the betta's fins were damaged he perked up immediately and made a full recovery. Recently he got trapped beneathe a small flower pot that we had in the tank. When he finally got free he had a dent in his back but that has healed now. (I took the flower pot out so it would not happen again). I'm really worried about him and wondered if anyone could shed any light on why he has gone down hill recently.
Sorry the spelling is dreadful.

is his stomach swollen up? Is he in a bowl or a tank? Do the white marks that are appering look like small dots of white? If you could the water Parimiters would be good. That can help us identify the problem. Do you know his age? It sounds like he is old, bettas dont really live for more then three years.

He in big tank. Not sure how big. Roughly a metre wide, 40 cm tall. He not got little white spots is just totally white at front. He's not bloated. None of the other fish in the tank are ill. (platy's and guppies and glow lights)

Ahh! bad mum! LOL Cichlids and bettas dont mix terribly well.

With the white colour, does it look soft or fluffy?

how old is the fish roughly? what colour is it normally?

Is it in a heated tank?

is there any chance of a photo? can you borrow a digital camera from someone?

The white looks soft and kinda fluffy.
He is atleast two years old.
He is normally a really dark blue with a red fin underneath. His fins have lost there (this sounds silly but can't think of any other way to describe it) fins have lost there flowy-ness. Will try to get pic, but could take time.

sounds like a bacterial infection. I know what you mean about the flowiness, they look kinda stiff and 'cut out' like.

Maracyn plus or if you can't get that, a bit of bettafix ( which is melafix watered down for bettas). Check and post your water parameters for us as well. ( Ph,ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, temp, gh/kh ). What other fish are in the tank?
