How big is the tank? what type of filtration are you using? is the filter working? did you do any type of water change? how much water was changed? do you have a water test kit? check your ammonia level then your pH I am not an expert but this information will be essential for anyone who might be able to help Time seems to be of the essence get this info as soon as possible. is the heater working or is it broken somehow? |

They seem to be better now...the discus are back to normal but 3 of my tetras died Tank=75g My PH=7 Amonnia=0 Temp=29C The water parameters are ok. I only was away from the tank from morning til now...so it was strange that this happend in some hours time. I just been thinking if one of my children has putt something in my tank?..but i might think they havent since they have never feed the fish because they know iam doing it. I will do some water changes now. Robby |

Rob1619 Fish Addict Posts: 763 Kudos: 619 Votes: 626 Registered: 01-Sep-2004 | Filters..hmmm..i havent checked those. I might think they have some problems since i have lots of small particles in the water and i have done some waterchanges but still have the dust/particle problem still. Robby |

zman Hobbyist Posts: 76 Kudos: 73 Votes: 63 Registered: 19-Feb-2006 | It might have occured during a water change if the water level dropped to the level that left the heater exposed to air.....just a thought. ok the tank scraping could have been the cause do you have a spare? also if you are going to do a water change make the conditions such that you stop circulation of water and let the particles (I'm concluding that they came from the heater) settle then using your siphon remove as much as possible. good luck!! |

No advice to give there, except dont go cheap on the product, and when one does go, make sure you turn the electric off at the fusebox, then off at the wall and unplug it. Wear marigolds if paranoid. Be aware that fish and turtles dont necessarily get electrocuted under the same circumstances that you would, they have different percentages of water in their body, different conductivity, and they might not have the earth contact that you do. People have been electrocuted from the same water fish are happily swimming around in. Well, happily swimming around until you complete the circuit with your body. BZZZZZZZZZT. |

chelaine Big Fish Posts: 383 Kudos: 343 Votes: 78 Registered: 23-Jul-2005 | i only ask this because i had an alligator snapping turtle for a pet. i raised him from baby until he was about 10 lbs. anyways... i could never keep anything in the tank with him, including heaters... he often bit at them, and he broke one.... glass shards and all in the tank.. i totally flipped and switched all the power off. needless to say, i didnt get shocked, but i wondered what the effect on the turtle might have been.. he lived... in fact hes still alive... but... anyways... i didnt know if a cracked heater effects fish or not. http://villagephotos.com/members/viewimage.asp?id_=13855920 yes.. his name was Fluffy.. dont laugh. *Chelle* I love the fishes cuz they're SOOO delicious... |

I had one of those too, years ago, I adopted one that someone had thought was a good idea to keep in the garden in the uk, (waaay too cold) , it was wild caught and in the course of helping it, it gave me the worst dose of salmonella ive ever had in my life. 19 days of sitting on the loo, bleeding , and drinking salts and taking antibiotics. I lost nearly 2 stone. Not fun.Consequently the turtle inherited a name that had to do with excrement and a large container. Er, you do know how big they get dont you...? http://www.sequenza21.com/Alligator%20Snapper%20S21.jpg Thats not incidentally , a really big one.... |
