one of my girlfriend's Kuhlis today developed a severe discolouration and paralysis in the discoloured section of it's body, there is also signs of finrot, the discolouration is spreading and we are unsure of the cause.

The kuhli is in a 10 gallon planted tank with 3 black phantom tetras, a crowntail betta, another kuhli and a few otos and shrimp. Water parameters are all up to snuff and no other fish are showing signs of ill health or previous aggression towards the kuhli

here is a couple of photos:

Wow , thats looks nasty, and more like an allergic reaction than a disease. Used anything in that tank along the lines of copper, formalin, or methylene blue recently? Any anti-algal agents or snail killer? Scale and tissue loss on that scale is nearly always an allergic reaction to a med or metal compound.

Theres very little sign of infection, but mycobacterium can also cause radical scale loss in a few rare cases, and at least partial paralysis isnt unusual.

after a closer look at her loach and a refferal to an ex-coworker we decided it was paralysis, so he damaged himself somehow and it caused the discolouration, the only medicaton used in that tank recently melafix.
