C.J.T![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fingerling Posts: 43 Votes: 11 Registered: 10-Jan-2005 ![]() ![]() | i have a neon tetra that about a couple of months ago had a little "bump" on his stomach and i thought nothing of it. then that little "bump" ever so slowly turned into two (it was slow enough that i did'nt realy notice it). then both of the "bumps" condended into one big "bump". just tonight my sister siad "Eeeeeew your smallest neon is pooping out of his chest!!" and im like "ok this "chest" is it next to his bottom-most fin?" so after some more of the above i look and see (on the neon) a BBIIGG "bump" and a little bit of "poop" coming from the exact middle of his "bump". so is this an internal parasite?, bloat?, some unidentified disase??? if you need my water parrimaters here they are: PH:7.5 i know you'll probably say "7.5 ph?!?! thats waaaay too high!!!!!" i know it is for most neons but they have "adapted" sorta to such a high ph cuz iv had these trio of neons for several years and when i introduce more they quickly die. temp: 77 degrees F ammonia: no nitrite: low tank:35gal filter: pengiun bio-wheel 200 I hope this was all you need cuz its all i have testkits for. Please give replys quick my neon(s) is/are at stake!! ![]() Thanks C.J.T ![]() Last edited by C.J.T at 14-Apr-2005 21:06 Last edited by C.J.T at 14-Apr-2005 21:08 Last edited by C.J.T at 14-Apr-2005 21:36 Last edited by C.J.T at 15-Apr-2005 06:32 I LOVE MY 55GALLON REEF!!!!! |

The stuff oozing out could be infectious material or it could be sporozoan. I'm not saying it is not a parasite, but if it is something like a sporozoan it could have devastating results for your entire tank as there are no cures. Infections are another story, and without seeing a pic, I'm going to believe this is what it most likely is. It sounds like a boil that is draining, into the water column. This puts lots of bacteria out there where other fish can pick it up. You can isolate him into any container that is at least 5 gallons. Use a rubbermaid bin, scrubbed with aquarium salt, and a little vinegar, then rinsed well. Fill it with aquarium water (as much as you can spare without depleting 30% of the tank's water). Then transfer the fish at that time. Predissolve some freshwater aquarium salt (1 Tbsp/5 Gal) and dribble in the solution over a few hours. This will help restore electrolytes lost through the wound. He needs antibiotic badly, if it is an infection. If he is eating, I recommend Jungle's Anti-Bacteria Medicated Food. I also recommend something in the water. I would go for a nitrofuran and you can find that in Jungle's Fungus Clear Tank Buddies - a common med. I'm going to say that it is not looking good for him. You need to consider protecting the other fish. That 30% water change should be done whether he lives or dies to reduce the amount of pathogen in the water. I'd go so far as to suggest dosing the main tank with at least one tablet of Fungus Clear. If you have live plants, it may or may not kill them. Read instructions on what it says about scaleless and sensitive fish. You may need to cut it in half. Keep the bin in the warmest section of the house, with a lid, and a fake plant in there to give him security. Also, always edit your first post to leave the "replies" at zero. This will get more attention than a post with replies, even one. Last edited by Cory_Di at 15-Apr-2005 09:26 |

Neons are characins and classified as sensitive so the rule of thumb is, when in doubt, dose the med at half strength. Always watch your fish closely for several hours after dosing meds to ensure they are not adversely reacting. If they do, partial water changes will rectify it. |
