I just came home today (Like 5 mins ago) and I found one of my male guppies with no balance, no gill movement, and an open mouth. He is also dancing around on the bottom on his tail. This was a very pretty guppy I bought from a small LFS. What could be the reasoning. The tank is a eclipse system 6. What is happening? Thanks.

There are several reasons why a guppy could be having these, I guess spazums would be an ok word to use here. Please test your water first, and post the results. Also, is this a new fish? He may not be accustomed to your water, or he may have had a disease that got worse after purchase.

Hi there,
as mentioned above, can you please post
your water test results for Ammonia, NitrItes
and NitrAtes.
Ph may also be helpful if ya can.
What fish are in the tank?
How long ago did you purchase this guppy?
Any other symptoms? Red marks anywhere, raised
scales? etc?
Thanks.

Also, the guppies you buy at the store are generally very low-quality and inbred fish, so it doesn't take much to kill them (despite the fact that they have a reputation as a beginner's fish).

I personally wouldn't be too worried about a dead guppy; it happens all the time. But it would be good to check the water parameters just in case...

Sounds like a swim bladder issue, as others have mentioned a lot of inbred fish have multiple organ failures and swim bladders are a common issue. He might just be completely exhausted from tring to rise. They often kill themselves doing that. Check the tank for sudden rises or drops in temperature, and if that isnt the problem theres bacterial causes that you can look into. Its always worth checking water quality when one fish gets sick. Some little dude has to be the first to get sick.
