Make sure that you have good water quality and a quality heater that keeps the temp really steady. Poor water quality and unsteady temp are things that will cause ick and other diseases, which im sure you already know. A lot of the times too this disease can happen by adding new fish from you local lfs that were infected. having a quarentine tank can greatly help reduce the risk of having disease added to your tank, if you are able to do this put any new fish you purchase in a quarentine tank for two or three weeks adding something like aquarisol. Prevention is the number one cure. Also when doing water changes make sure that the water you are adding to your tank is properly treated and the temp is the same as the temp in your tank, best wishes. 17 years experience with freshwater. |
