I have always had amazing luck with my fish. Sick fish has been a rare occurance with me, so when one does seem ill or strange I always immediately come here. ....I have a female platy that I thought was giving birth as I saw a few fry hovering down at the bottom of my tank. But she seems to have these two red color balls, almost growths or tumors protruding from her...(along with translucent string which made me believe she was giving birth) But now there seems to be a ball of eggs coming out too...What does this mean? Can fish miscarry? But they seem to be little and white not at all near birth time...??? I separated her and just treated her with melafix just in case it was some sort of bacteria infection...Can anyone shed light on this strange phemonena?

I have a female sailfin molly with a similar issue. She has had for many months what amounts to a tube at her vent. It's like her lower intestine sticks out and her poop comes out of that. It seems to bother me more than her however so I haven't done anything.

I suspect there was some rough handling when she was little that caused her stress on her guts - and pushed things out - yuck! Perhaps that happened to your platty Sarah?

Sorry it took me so long to reply...The platy ended up dying that night. I'm not sure what was wrong with her...
