Hi everyone

My gourami is showing some pretty severe battle wounds from a couple of fights with another gourami and platies. To prevent infection, I treated my tank with Melafix for about a week. Eventhough he is acting normal, eating well and swimming all the time, I really don't like the looks of these injuries, as you can see from the pics. I'm thinking perhaps there is something else afflicting my fish. I have transferred him to a 5g tank and am currently treating him with a half capsule of Furan-2 and will repeat the dosage tomorrow. Can anyone suggest anything else I can do to help my little guy? Other medications I have on hand are Maracyn-2 and Aquarisol.
Thanks for your help!!!

The link doesn't work, please try to fix or you will have to explain injuries more. Top notch water quality is vital during injury. Make sure the hosiptal tank does not spike in ammonia or nitrite this could easily worsen the wounds.

Here's a new link.

He was still alive this morning and he ate well. I did a 50% water change to remove some of the Furan-2 and I added Melafix. Right now he's swimming around peacefully. Water parameters Amonia 0, NitrIte 0, NitrAte less than 5 Temp. 26C. Any recommendations?

Thank you!

I thought he was healing when he was in the main tank, but I saw the wounds were raised and I could see some scales that were loose. I was thinking that maybe something else was wrong. That's when I transferred him over to the 5g. He did something strange though after being in the 5g for a few hours. All of a sudden he started to dart around the tank uncontrollably and scraped his wounded side on the intake tube of the filter. I saw bits of scale come off and a little blood pour out. He was really stressed after that episode and stayed near the bottom of the tank breathing heavily. He's there again right now.

Thanks for your replies. The poor little guy is just trying to stay put in one area. He's mainly hovering around the top now. He's been there for hours. I reduced the movement in the tank so as not to create too much of a current. I noticed at one point it brought him close to some fake plants that brushed his wounded side. He didn't like that. Really feel bad for him. Hope he gets better.

You can try maracyn plus. I would also add melafix and primafix as well to help prevent secondary infection of fungus. Also add some aquarium salt per instruction on package in order to help with wounds as well and assist in lost ion exchange. If feeding do not leave uneaten food in tank. I would also reduce the hours of lighting in tank(maybe just turn them on when you get home from work to early evening, it may help reduce some stress on the fish. Keep the water quality top notch, very important. good luck and keep us update.

He died during the night. I only had him for 6 weeks but he developed such a personality. He'd squirt water at me if I wasn't fast enough at feeding time and I could get him to take bloodworms right out of my fingers. What a waste for such a beautiful fish. Sad day
