Hi all,
I recently noticed (yesterday) that one of my pristella tetras has fungus. It is in several small patches over the back of him/her. But- it is also accompanied by several black blotchy areas near the affected fungussed areas.
I am going to remove him tonight and try treating him in a seperate container.
What do you think would be best to treat with? I have Jungle Brands Fungus Clear powder, PimaFix, Melafix, General Cure EM Tabs, and have some Quick Cure.
I also have aquarium salt on hand.
I have no idea what the black blotchy areas are. Could it be just cuz he is stressed out and irritated, i notice pristellas sometimes go blacky when they are stressed out, or is it something worse? I can find no info online on black blotchy areas. It does not appear to be raised, but looks more like a dark patch in the skin.

The black patches are probably Myxobacteriosis, a rare and stubborn bacterial infection with no known meds...

You can treat the fungus with a fungus med for a week then change the water, at least 50% of it, and dose some Melafix for another week.

Good water quality is a must to combat this rare disease.

Gary, wouldnt this have showed up sooner? This is a fish that has been with me for 2 months now, and before that was with my sister for around 6-7 months. It has been apparently healthy all along. How could it have caught this rare bacterial disease? No new fish have been added to this tank recently at all, and all nets are cleaned between tanks.
The Pristella is starting to look better now. I think whatever it is, the PrimaFix and Melafix combination is working.
