Hi,

A few days ago another one of my cory paleatus is showing symptoms (clamped fins, lethargic, scratching against objects) of what his deceased partner had (in my previous post titled "Misc Problems with my corys". To minimize the chance of my other corys getting it, I took him out and put him in a 1-gal ice-cream container with original tank water. I don't have any quarantine/hospital tank and can't get one until this weekend, so that was my only option at the time. I've been replacing most of the water in the container twice daily with tank water, added a tiny bit of salt and Melafix, and so far (after 2 days) he's still alive. Apart from losing color in the container (stress?), he's actually quite active (more so than he was in the tank). He even ate the couple of pieces of flakes that I put in this morning.

So, do you think it's ok to leave him in there for 3 more days until I can get a small tank? I ordered some anti-parasites (Sterazin) via internet and hopefully it will arrive this week so I can treat him. Or should I put him back in Gen.Pop. and hope for the best? What have you done in a situation where you have a sick fish but no hospital tank?

Thanks.

-P

I think you have done a really good job so far considering that you have limited options until you can get a quarantine setup. Good sign that it is eating. Fadey colur probably due to stress, is there any hiding places in the container? Just to give it some options. even a spare plant not anchored down or anything will give a bit of cover if he wants it.

All the best...I know I am not much help but I didn't want your post to go unacknowledged. I am sure people a lot more knowledgeable than me will help you. (was typing and gauntlet helped out...cool)

Thanks for the advices. Good idea about the plants - I have some plastic plants that I could use. So far I've just used the container cover to keep it dark (but not totally closed) and placed the container in a dark corner of the house.

As far as setting up the quarantine tank, should I just use water from established tank, or mix that with regular tap water?

Thanks again.

Use water from your established tank.

I usually mix it 50/50 with tap water. Instant water change.
