I used to keep goldfish in it and they basically died mostly from dropsey. any how i thought i cleaned the tank out pretty well. i stopped keeping goldfish in that tank from march and moved some danios into keep the cycle going. I have had gouramis rams and mollies in the tank, not all at once, first gouramis then when they died I moved my mollies in there and got rams for my birthday, in the last two months nearly all my fish have died. ine at a time with pretty big gaps in between like a week or more. there isn't any pattern as such i haven't noticed any thing wrong with the fish, except the last molly my boy who got very skinny but was still eating and swimming around normally. it just seems they die for no reason, no white spots, no funny swimming, no dropsey scales business. I test the water regularly the tank is well planted, with the tests regularly not showing any levels at all. i know the tests work cos in between I cycled my fry tank and they showed levels then. I am wondering what to do? is it a parasite i can't get rid of ?? i have used mxyazin and furnol treatments once each over the last couple of months I do a 25 % water change every week. this weekend i came home on sunday to find my male ram dead and yesterday my male molly was dead. today my beautiful female betta is looking odd - half her colouring has gone?? so any suggestions? thanks GFG xx Never be bullied into silence. What kind of filtration are you using? Have there been power outages where the filter was off more than an hour? How did you clean the tank? In the UK is bleach available or is it a problem like ammonia? (at least I thought ammonia was not easy to get in the UK). I generally sanitize with bleach and water overnight. I don't measure it, I just pour in a good cup to a 10 gallon or so. If bleach isn't available, then a very heavy concentration of salt - like greater than what you would find in SW and hot water would be good. Once again, I would do so overnight. Do you have live plants in the tank? Did you reuse the gravel or other decco? The original goldies - where they from a feeder tank? Those are nasty and carry everything imaginable. Do you get your stock from the same place? Do they quarantine or just put all the new fish right into the main tanks? Have they experienced high losses? The other possibility is a problem with the water supply. Not sure what you would do there, but I have heard of people using UV sterilizers to help with that. Distilled water contains no minerals and they would have to be added back. Do you add fertilizers or pH adjusters? |

We obviously have guppies and goldfish but they are sold as guppies and goldfish! As far as i no people in England rarely fed goldfish to other fish, but some do with guppies but they are breed in the persons own home for that, that the observations i made when i was working in my lfs anyways! |

Fish always show signs that something is wrong, be it gasping or just hanging out at the surface, strange swimming patterns or sitting on the bottom, hiding, etc. --garyroland. |
