I had 2 danios die on me like 2 weeks ago. It seemed that the problem was gone after the 2 had died. But now I noticed 1 of my other 4 danios left has been at the bottom of the tank not swimming a whole and this afternoon it died. I also noticed that there was a Huge red spot in its gills, is this a serious problem and can it kill my other fish? I'm currently testing the water so every word of advice givin is much appreciated.

Thank You

Punksvspops,

Sorry about your loss.

As all others in your last post regarding your fish losses already stated, it is IMPORTANT that you pass along your water parameters (which you neglected to do throughout that thread) and all pieces of information that might be useful for us in helping you to identify why your fish are dying.

Yea I know......i have a 10 gallon tank with now 3 danios and 1 goldfish, who was in there to make sure my tank was safe enough for fish. The temperature is 76 degrees, ph is 7.6, nitrite is .2, and ammonia is 0, I'm not to sure what you mean by filtration but all i know is that i have a filter recommeneded for 10 gallons. If there is anything i failed to mention this time please tell me and if I'm not sure of what you mean I'll ask.

Thanks again

Thanks,

The provided info is certainly helpful

Now, Zebra Danios are usually hardy fish and although your ph is more on the high end for them I don't think this would be a problem.

Can you tell us a little about your water change routine? Like, how much did you change, did you do anything to the filter? When did you perform your last few changes? What is the process that you apply when performing a water change (gravel vac etc.)?

I am not sure about this, maybe others can back me up here, but red gills (extremely red) could be a sign of high Nirtate levels.

I was told by somebody at Petco, even though I dont entirely trust them, to change 1/4 of the water once every month. As far as a gravel vac, i've never heard of one but if it's going to help my tank out i'll certainly look into getting one. As far as the filter goes, i haven't done anything to it. If I do need to make changes to please advise me into that driection as well. I'm trying to learn as much as possible so i can upgrade myself to a bigger tank and learn more.

Thanks

Ok, well as for water changes, you should be doing then more like once a week,25% of water. A gravel vac is a device that cleans out the gravel, somewhat like you vacuum a carpet. They sell them at wal-mart and PetCo, for rather cheap, definately invest one. How long has the filter been running? For most filters you have to change the carbon once a month for good filtration. It would be helpful to know at least what brand the filter is!

The Goldfish in the tank is also probably not a good idea, they get rather large and need LOTS of space.

I'm not sure about the illness, sorry i cant help there.

The filter that i have i believe is a penguin or emperor filter, somewhere along the line of those names. The filter has been running almost a month. So I'll change the carbon thing and definately go out and get that gravel vac. As far as the goldfish goes, what should i do with it? I have a 2.5 gallon tank with a betta in it but im not entirely sure if the betta would want the company of the goldfish. All I know is that i have talked with my neoghbor who has helped me out a lot with the tank as well and even he is confused by this . Well hopefully I can get this problem fixed soon so I don't have anymore of my fish dying.
