He/She is in a 55 gallon tank with a breeding pair of black convicts with about 10 babies about .75" in size?(could have eaten one whole?) just to give a descr. of the tank situation. Oscar prolly 4-5 years old. Red thingy has like a blood like trail coming off of it ever so slowly...Fish seems to be somewhat sickly (still alert kinda and swimming)...tail spazing periodicaly... Oh yea tank is bare... |

Looking at the swelling around the anus... it's either a blockage or an infection. If the fish is still eating, try it on a high spirulina diet while it is isolated. I lost a Moorii to an internal blockage, and the reason was the quick following infection. Start treating immediately with either Tetracycline or Metrodizonole in the isolation tank. If you don't have an isolation/hospital tank, then go out and buy a 75L or so plastic tub and an air stone. The med's i've suggested above will kill any cycle you have, so you'll need to be doing regular water changes as specified on the med's directions. As a final note, you haven't posted the tank parameters. I'm going to say it - and don't think it's an attack - but your tank is overstocked. It's barely big enough for the Oscar let alone a breeding pair of convicts! I'm surprised the aggression of the convicts hasn't caused a problem for the Oscar before now... but that's beside the point. Get the fish in isolation, start feeding it only spirulina or high vegetable ba |
