Does it look like dirty cotton like growths on the skin? I can not tell by your pictures. They are a bit blurry. It is probably a fungus caused by parasitic infestation in your tank. I would deffinately get your serpae into a hospital tank. I had this problem with some Guoramis a couple years ago and it turned out to be a bad case of Ich. I used a combination of Melafix and Pimafix in a hospital tank. It looked like it was working but I had to put the last survivor down after the fungus damaged his mouth so bad that he would not eat. I have heard some great things about Melafix and Pimafix. But have also heard that a treatment specifically made for Ich should be used too as Melafix and Pimafix treat only exterior wounds and fungus. In my case it was too late for my Guoramis and they didnt even make it through the full course of treatment. Sorry about your loss!

I am no expert. I have only had experience with Fungus and Ich so you may want another opinion. Maracyn treats both though and if I were you I would start with that now to be on the safe side. As you said it cant hurt the rest of the inhabitants.

It looks to me like Columnaris disease.
I would treat immediately with Maracyn 2 or
Furan 2.
Keep the water really clean.
