Hi everyone,

I just returned home from college to find my two female bettas having a lot of trouble. It looks like a swim bladder problem to me. One is slightly bloated and is having trouble staying away from the surface. The other is much worse. She can't even stay right side up; she just flops around at the surface on her side looking very, very bloated. Both fish are eating, pooping, and breathing fine, as far as I can tell. I changed both of their 1-gallon tanks today so the water is clean. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to help these poor fish??? That one looks so miserable.

well, if you have seen them poop then I guess they aren't constipated, but I 'd feed them a pea any way

do you have prima fix? I use that BUT did you change their water and then they got sick, - if so maybe their water is bad in some way they are sick from that? (sorry if you know this already - but you used water conditioner and the temp was the same etc?)

if you changed it after they became sick treat with Primafix? good for internal infections.

there are other meds to use, what do you have (I only like prima and melafix)some other members might have more meds options to suggestion.

do check the water tho, I found my female bettas to be pretty tough, although two "sisters" did get tumours? but I assuming this illness came on quickly?

sorry they are so sick. its difficult to watch.

thanks for the reply... they were sick before I changed the water. The new water seems to be fine, I used aquasafe and everything. I used the same sink to fill up my other two betta tanks, and they are ok. I put a little bit of melafix into the tank with the really bad off one. It's helping a little, but the fish still can't stay upright without a struggle. It looks like it's bending it's back some, that might be because of the bloating, but I'm not sure.
