The other day I came home from lunch and my GF asked me if I could see any fish in my 55gal. nada zip, they were all hiding, and occasionally flip out and go bouncing around the tank.

This was friday, and the fish haven't seemed to settle down. At first I thought a tradesman who fitted some curtains may have been harrasaing the fish, but surely they would have settled down, and he was only there for about 10 minutes.

This is a bit of a worry, the smaller rainbows are less skittish but my big chequred rainbows are compeletely beside themselves.

A full water quality test showed nothing, but we did a water change anyway.

NH3 - 0
No2 - 0
No3 - 40ppm (it's E.I. Planted tank)
ph 7.2

any pointers ladies and gentlemen???

Yeah the numbers look right, but I've noticed that sometimes they dont show although you might have a small mini cycle.
Other things to consider, any power outages in the past few days? That'll cause a minicycle most times. Any alarms going off lately? Smoke alarms, house alarms? I know that if the ouse alarm in the office goes off it throws the fish in the office into fits:%). That's about all I can think of to start off with...not that helpful I know :%).

Cheers Barbel, no smoke alarms, maybe a hammer drill and perhaps some solid tribal techno, but thats about it! I swear!
Honest!

And even then the tek didn't happen till saturday...

Thing is, my tiger barb community lives right over the "hot zone" of the house, speakers underneath and smoke alarms above, and they're cool as cucumbers.

The rainbows are usually boisterous and lining up to be fed, but at the mo they're into the weeds as soon as they're seen. Wierd, no???

Odd for sure!

Have they ever been known to have hide and seek tournaments Maybe they're just trying to get you to play ....

That or guilt trip you into more food .

I don't think it's so that they get more food, my boesmani doesn't care much and will just eat and eat and eat, but my chequred rainbows (the big boys of the tank) are being complete wimps and will only feed if I'm not in sight.

The chequered rainbows have been breeding and I'm starting to wonder whether they're not all wierd from that or its worse...

Like Mycobacteriosis..
