Super Fat Black Neon | |
SJinNJ Fish Addict Posts: 568 Kudos: 447 Votes: 16 Registered: 21-May-2003 | Hey folks, I'm worried about one of my black neons. The neon appears super fat and seems to be growing. I'm wondering if the neon is holding eggs or something. The neon still eats and gets around OK but I'm worried it might be something else. Other then holding eggs is there something else that could be going on here? The neon is in a 75 gallon community tank. All water parameteres are OK. Other tank mates are other blak neons, cories, danios, rasboras, rummy noses and a BN. There has been no tank additions in over a year. Tanks gets weekly 20% water changes. |

I would do one of two things 1. raise the temp SLIGHTLY so if you at 76 go to 78 for example (but check here first) to see if she will release the eggs some times a temp rise makes them think it is time to breed?!?.. 2. or put her in a quarantine tank, I would probably do this any way just to be on the safe side - make sure the water temp is the same, and it has perfect water quality( no pressure!)no nasty shocks if she is already ill. maybe a photo might be an idea? lots of people here would know if it was eggs! let me know what happens GFG Last edited by goldfishgeek at 24-Aug-2005 19:16 Never be bullied into silence. She's holding eggs, of which case she should drop them eventually 2. She just a plump little girl If it is something other than that, it could be troubleYou could always try feeding her some green peas popped fresh out of their shells, this usually encourages the fishies to uh pass through whatever is in their systems, through the waste production process heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." I don't see any improvement, but the fish still is getting around without that much trouble. The neon's belly is now literally triple the size of the rest of the neon if viewed from above. The neon's scales are not sticking out. I will keep feeding the tank peas and hope for the best, perhaps she's having issues passing the eggs, I just don't know. I have managed in the past to raise some black neon fry so I've seen black neon's carrying before but I have never seen a fish get this fat before. |
