I don't know if you remember this, but my guppy had a weird clear worm/threadlike think coming off of her. I got the melafix meds for her, but was only able to treat her for that day because we were leaving to go camping that night. By the time I got home, she was already dead. All of the other fish look fine and healthy, but I'm going to keep treating the tank to make sure it doesn't come back. Just wanted to say thanks for taking all that time to help me figure out what was wrong with her. I just wish it could have happened at a better time. At least we can hopefully prevent any other problems now though, since I'm treating before they get that sick.

Side question though... I removed the original filter media since we thought the meds could kill the bacteria anyway, but I left the thing in a tub of tank water. I'm not sure if the bacteria would stay alive or anything, but would it be a good idea to try to put the original filter cartidge in after the treatment is done?

Ah well, thats sick animals and holidays for ya. Sorry for the loss.

I wouldnt bother with the original cartridge for two reasons, one, the nitrosoma bacteria will be dead, needing constant flow and oxygen, and two, the harmful bacteria and parasites wont be, so you might reinfest your tank with the old cartridge. Personally id ditch it.

Thanks then! I'll throw it away just to be sure! It was just unfortunate timing. I wish I had been home to properly medicate the tank!
