Hello there,

Here is my problem. I have noticed for a while that one of my tetras had a small white "spot" on its mouth, and didn't think anything of it. But today, I noticed another fish has the white "spot" on it mouth as well. Can this be cottonmouth? Or is it ich?

Also, recently I found a long whitish curly thing laying at the bottom of the tank. And now there is another. Is this poo, or is it worms? Never saw anything like it.

Forgot to add that I have had my tank established since March, 2004, and this is the first problem.

My parameters are:
Temp 76F
Nitrite: 0
Ammon: 0
Ph: 7.0

Filtration: Millenium 2000

Nice filter I love the milleniums, they are so quiet!

When you say white spot, what does it look like? can you describe the spot a bit more? If there are no other spots on the fish (use a torch if you need to, look at fins and gills)

What sort of fishies?

The worm thing is *probably* a planarian. they usually pop up if you are overfeeding or your tank is settling in to its cycle. They are harmless.

It looks like a little white ball of cotton on their lips. The one fish has one that is bigger than the other one that I just saw today. No other spots on their bodies. Both of them are tetras, and my list of fishies is at the bottom of the post.

Thanks for the reply about the "worm" looking thing. I did start them on a new food, Nutrafin Max, mini floating pellets. I didn't think I was feeding them too much, but I will have to check that.
Thanks.

Guess what? I took out the curly wormy thing, and it was hard and wirey? Does this sound like what you described?

Also, I just noticed that one of my Tetras is gone. So I guess I have only three now!

Could the 'worm' be a spine? or bones of some sort?

I think you might have a bacterial infection in there. Do you have any medications on hand?

No, I don't think it is a spine. It is too long for that. It looks like a piece of spiraling wire. What kind of meds do I need? I don't have any on hand. How quickly do I need to take care of this? I live 1hr 15min. from the shops.

well, next trip in, grab some tetracycline and some multicure (its got meth blue, malachite green and acriflavin in it).

i think you should start with the multicure and go from there.

Just before you do, what fish are in there? some are sensitive.
