Well now that Dante, my red veil tail betta, has gotten over his case of ich which I am still treating as a precaution; I'm trying to figure out if he has indeed gotten a case of fin rot as a secondary infection.

His behavior, water parameteres, and appetite are all normal - but his tail did have a slight white fuzz days ago.

This has long since gone and now his bottom and back fin (but not the top one) have a thin white line along the edges, so thin I haven't been able to catch it in a photo...
I'm not sure if this is fin rot, a fin rot that's healing ( some of my ich meds active ingrediants are similar to anti-fungal meds) or just new growth from the slight damage from the ich.

Is it safe to treat as fin rot even if it isn't? Or should I just invest in some pimafix and do a melafix combo alongside ongoing ich treatments?

Sorry for the long post and I hope I make sense ^^;

If possible let me know any extra water changes, treatment changes or what not that I'd need =)

White at the edge of fins is usually just new growth. Is it a sort of clear white? Does it still look bright and vibrant and seem to taper off at the end, possibly to a very very fine clear edge? If so, I wouldn't worry.

Does it have a very dark coloured line directly next to it? That would change things, as a very dark line followed by a white line is indicative of a pretty serious case of finrot that will be unlikely to respond to many drugs that you can easily get your hands on In that case the white is usually a slightly grey white and the fin finishes abruptly.

They would be the two instances where I would expect to see white at the edge of fins, and although you could treat it as finrot, in the first instance it isn't needed, and in the second it would be unlikely to help unless you went all in, and that isn't a good thing to do if you aren't 100% certain.

I would just go with the standard betta fixit method Clean water and some indian almond leaf if you can find it.

It is a very slightly clear white, looks like a webbed white if that makes any sense at all, his fin edges are a little rough but he is more or less usually that way. I can't find any dark or black like lines anywhere on his fins so that's a good sign isn't it?

I only hope this white won't break out into any fuzz, if thats the case i have melafix and pimafix onhand if that would be of use ^_^

It sounds just like new growth. The look of webbing is good and rough is fine

If it was the grey/white with the dark line, that'd be the fin slowly dying while still attached. It is a pretty distinctive look that you'd probably spot straight away, even if you hadn't seen it before
