I've had my dwarf honey gourami for at least a couple of months now (all the while in my 29 gallon tank). He's happy, he's healthy and to the best of my knowledge, he gets along well with his tank mates (5 giant danios, 1 bichir). Please, no more warnings about the Bichir. I've posted about him before and I've seen the warnings that bichirs can be agressive and grow to massive sizes. My Bichir is still about 3 inches long and will calmy float motionless, face to face or swim right near the gourami to share food without giving him so much as a dirty look. I've watched the bichir for long periods of time, and I've never seen it go after any of my other fish.

Anyway, my question is about my gourami, not the bichir. It's obvious that one of the other fish decided it hadn't been given enough to eat one night and thought my gourami's tentacle would make for a nice midnight snack. I can't say for sure that the bichir didn't do it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's one of my giant danios that's guilty. Or could I be wrong completely? Do gourami's lose their tentacles just because? And by whichever means he lost it, will another tentacle grow back?

I don't think that the 'whiskers' just drop off. However, I do believe the good news is that they will eventually grow back. But only if the agression is settled down. One of the most agrressive fish I have ever had as a dwarf gourami, 'small fish syndrome'???

Take a look and see if they are circling eachother with one making a submissive 'lying on the side' gesture.

In the meantime introduce tall plants and some more rocks propped to make caves.

Good luck getting a good mix in the tank.
