my betta is a male, and acting funny he is Lethargic, rapid breathing, sits on the bottom, swollen belly, dosent eat, he hides in a rock i have in his tank. his tank is at 76ish and rises every now and then becuse of the weather. what is wrong with him?

is it drospy, which the scales are like a pine cone, not a very nice sight.

It could be dropsy but I am not sure. How long has he been like this for? And welcome to the site

if it is drospy, i haven't had any luck at curing the fish, but if it is, cahnge the water, change the filter stuff, and u can try jungle buddies fungus clear, which helps.

The change in temperature in his tank is not good - How much does it rise by? that will not make for a happy betta

Feed him a pea - take the skin off the pea first. and see if he poops(great way to spend a couple of hours.)

if his scales aren't sticking out like on a pinecone then he could just be constipated a pea (vegetable) will move things along!

Try to work out a way to keep his temp the same all the time. drops in temp cause problems - can you get a small heater? or put him in a room where the weather doesn't affect the temp?
