hey guys

got home from holiday and my girlfriend had her family feeding the pets while we where away, but they only fed the gold fish once in the 4 days! any way we gave them a small pinch last night (there are 3 of them in a tank)and when we woke up this morning one was very bloated and some scales are missing and some are hanging off! Now i know my way around tropicals but i tend to let her get on with her 3 goldfish, but this one has me stumped any help would be great

thanks

Did you preform water changes as soon as you got back and right before you left?

Once in 4 days isn't too little, that's what I'd almost prefer a feeder to do while I was away rather than overfeeding.

It sounds to me based on the pineconing effect you describe to be dropsy, which is a bacterial infection, usually a result of poor water conditions.

Here is a link that should assist you further.

You didn't mention what sized tank the 3 goldfish were in, but goldfish need very large tanks that may be something you wish to address to prevent further issues with these fish!
Good luck.

^_^
