Hi everyone, i need suggestions on how to treat an angelfish for finrot in a 75G. He's on the larger side and I have no \QT tanks available over 10G and I don't think that would be a good place to put him.

Also, what would be a good treatment for a this type of fin rot? From what I can tell, he got nipped at the top of his fin and it appears to be whiteish in color and sort of "melting" away almost. There's no redness around the injury like on other fin rot cases I've seen.

For whatever is best for him, how do I treat effectively in such a large tank?

Thanks

You will have sort the problem out in the tank with agressive fish, so it dosn't keep happening, if it melting i would use maracyn.

Great, I went out and got maracyn before you even posted--glad I made the right choice. As far as agression, I'm fairly certain is the diamond tetras that are in there. Nippiest fish I have ever own in all the years I've kept fish.

I'm concerned because the 10G also hasn't been properly cycled. It's been in my basement half filled with water but I DID have aeration on it as well as a timed light for the java moss I was growing in it. I emptied all that water out however since it was dirty. I filled it about 20% tap water (no chlorine--we have a well) and about 80% from my 75G. He's only going to be in there for the length of the maracyn treatment (5-7 days). What kind of problems should I expect relating to the tank possibly going trough a cycle?

Obviously you may get ammonia and nitrite spikes, I suppose you could do partial daily water changes from the 75 into the qt tank to minimise the difference of water quality the fish is subject to, but as ever with quarantining in an uncycled tank the shock of the change is almost as big a risk as the disease itself. Watch for respiritory problems.

Whenever possible I like to treat an entire tank in situ, since the bacteria that caused the problem in the first place will still be in there with all the other fish. If the angel is subject to persecution you might be able to create a partition to stop other fish getting to him, you shouldnt be short of space in a 75 after all.
