hi...
i've noticed for the last couple weeks now that my male fancy tail guppies seem to have fin rot.... well just jagged tails in which i thought was fin rot. I noticed late last night and now this morning that my male serpae tetra is the cause of this.... i see him nipping constantly, which is a behaviour i've never seen him do.

now i'm just wondering if there's anything i can do about their tails..if there's a medication that will help or anything.... and also what is my best bet with the serpae tetra.. i do have a 2 gallon with a betta in it....???

please help..

Serpaes are known fin nippers... they're one of the worst of the tetras in that respect. Try raising the number in your school so that the serpaes will concentrate on their own kind or finding a way to separate the two species.

Melafix is a good solution for nipped fins. It's basically tea tree oil, and while it doesn't HEAL the fins, it's sort of like putting peroxide on a wound... it keeps it clean and promotes new growth. Melafix is a great thing to have handy.
