![]() | help!! gourami ulcers |
wishgarden![]() Small Fry Posts: 12 Votes: 0 Registered: 05-Jul-2004 ![]() ![]() | Please help. My dwarf gourami was injured by another fish (now gone) but it's bite mark has turned into an ulcer. I've tried salt in the water, potassium permanganate, and also fungal cure (acriflavin and malacite green). It's getting worse and spreading to the other side of it's face. |

Do some water changes to get the meds out. Then pull your charcoal, treat with Melafix and keep the water quality top notch. Melafix is a natural antiseptic which will help prevent fungus from going into the wound and might even speed healing. (if it will heal) Ulcers from wounds sometimes never go away but it's worth trying. Good luck ! The Amazon Nut... |

Advanced ulceration will kill the fish and, if fish can feel pain, your fish is suffering. --garyroland. |

Some ulcerations, bacterial in origin, will spread quickly while others will remain the same size. Since we have a multitude of different strains of bacteria, take your pick. Only a slide stain may show the culprit. For some unknown reason, Gouramies seem to suffer from expanding skin ulcers more than other species. --garyroland. |

I have some gouramis and would hate for that to happen. I think the 'ulcers' I was thinkin about is simple scar tissue from a wound maybe when the fish was young. This is definately a worse animal.
