It put my fish to sleep in less than 2 seconds. ( a cory and a checker barb ) ( chris and charlie ) But i've also heard of 1 part vodka and 9 parts water. I don't know how painless but if you want to make it quicker than go with more vodka. And i'm really sorry about your loss. IT is very hard. i know

Go to your local pharmacy and purchase a bottle of CLOVE OIL. Mix about a teaspoon of clove oil into a little glass of water, mix well, until frothy and bubbly. Place fish in glass. Clove oil is used as a sedative in small doses, in higher doses the fish just goes to sleep and never comes out of it. This is the only real painless method of euthanasia in fish. Do you know that while the water may be clean in your toilet, once your fish hits the bottom they will be immersed in a huge load of sewage and urine and who knows what nasty things. What a horrible mean cruel painful way to die. I dont think you would like to drown in a septic tank, dont force it on your fish please.
