One of my corys died after a very lengthy ilness, and I cant rule out an internal parasitic infection(reddness around the belly area an the body) I'd really hate to lose any more of these cuter little guys. What are my safest and mosty efective options for medications?? do jungle labs parasite budies work well?? I'm currently treating the tank with maracyn and melafix to cure a body fungus infection in a wounded otto(he panicked and got himself wedged between two sharp rocks) ![]() Ive read that it can be adviseable to treat new fish for worms as a preventative measure. |

Especially new fish. If there is suspicion of certain diseases or parasites, treatment can be given ( parasite cures, wide spectrum antibiotics, etc) but in the Quarantine tank, not in the main tank. If you dumped in some medicine every time a fish died and it worried you, you'd end up with a revolt on your hands by the regular tank inhabitants. ( by revolt, I mean they'd start getting stressed/sick/dying ) As a general rule, fish don't particularly enjoy medicine, and sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. I would just keep an eye on the fish you're worried about for now, or quarantine them if it makes you feel better and monitor them that way..but dumping in medicine is usually the last thing to do, when you are sure the fish has a problem and you know what the problem is. There are exceptions, of course. |

Saw it at Petsmart yesterday. " Anti-Parasite Medicated Fish Food" - for internal parasites. Supposed to feed it 3 days a week for a month. If you're really worried about things you can't see nor diagnose really, you could feed that to the fish as a precaution I spose. |
