lost a Tiger barb | |
ScottF Fish Addict Addiction Hurts!! Posts: 542 Kudos: 330 Votes: 355 Registered: 28-May-2007 | Sadly, one of my origional Tiger Barbs was found deceased yesterday. I hadn't checked my parameters in awhile so I took samples and all was well. 78 F temp, 0 Amm, 0 Nitrites, 8.2 pH and 40 Nitrates. I know the Nitrates are a little high but 40ppm shouldn't cause any trouble. I catch water changes (20-25%) weekly or every other week, including a gravel vac. My last Oto finally passed this week as well. They just didn't do well, one by one they dropped. So, I am giving the algae eater thing a break for now. Maybe some SAE to take care of my brown diatoms? I haven't noticed any spots, fuzz, slime, eye pops, cuts, scrapes, finrot, disoloration, red gills or anything with the TB's. So, maybe it was just his time. I will be watching closely. Wierd.... bummer |

No apparent reason that I could tell same as yours . Life can be very tough in the TB world what with little battles being fought all the time . Sometimes they just succumb to the wear and tear . Anyway life goes on , add a few new ones like I did , it will cheer you up . Garry |

They apparently do not do as well due to deformations to breed them that way. ottos are really a hit or miss. I have had a batch that lasted years and another batch that lasted only about a month. http://www.fishprofiles.com/site/aquarank.aspx |

fishmonster Big Fish Oh My Heck! Posts: 329 Kudos: 88 Votes: 73 Registered: 11-Apr-2007 | Scott Sorry to hear about your TB, However i can help on the ottos. Ottos are very sensitive to the nitrates and so if they are high which you may not conside 40ppm to be high it could still affect the ottos. Again sorry to hear about your losses. Shane Thanks for your input as always, Shane http://thetanklog.blogspot.com/ - [ Thanks to ScottF ] http://www.natureaquariumclubofutah.com/main.html |
