checking my tank this morning i found my male neon blue gourami under the filter, thinking it was stuck i removed the filter, it was dead it's colour had faded, was this just because it was dead, or has it faded due to illness?
there are no signs of disease, he was eating fine yesterday.

i'm doing a water change and esting the water just incase. i'll get back with the results.

water is fine.

When I read the title of your thread I thought you had literally "lost" your Gouramie...

I was going to suggest an ad in the "lost and found" column of the paper.

Fish have been known to be alive one day and dead the next. We as hobbyists are always baffled by the happening and have absolutely no positive cause for the demise.

I've always thought tropicals, like humans, have heart attacks and strokes, something humans can sometimes sustain but fish never can.

Faded color is common when blood stops circulating within the dead fish.

Gouramies, large or small, have a reputation for scrapping. When constantly bullied by another fish, be it another Gouramie or another species, the Gouramie will stress out, resistance to any disease in the tank will lessen, and the fish will die within the week.

A young Gouramie will simply die from the stress of constantly being chased and bullied.
