I save 2 new balloon mollies at my friends’ pond, they're about 2 inches. He gave it to me because he’s moving to another place here in the phils. And the balloon mollies are in the quarantine tank for 3 days, I noticed that their eyes are swollen and the other molly is almost blind because of white transparent spot covering her eyes. The other molly has red spot at her caudal peduncle, and it’s more like growing. They looked seemed fine though. I currently treated them with salt. I can’t get water parameter because his pond now is dry. I need medical assistance for this matter. Please help me save them.

Your input is highly appreciated.

Last day I examined closely, to see what's that red spot on her caudal peduncle and saw that it's her scales uplift with reddish under. Is this contagious? The other molly, it’s the same something transparent white covering her eyes that almost blind her and her eyes are swollen. Is this contagious too? Although they looked pretty well, but I know that they’re suffering from this thing. How can I prevent it? What’s the possible medical treatment I can give to them? Anyone has any suggestions, comments on this, or anyone had the same problem? Please help, before it’s too late. Thanks!

Hi Ronnfive, sorry noone has gotten to you before this, and I may not be the one to help, but let's see what we can do shall we?

First you say that the mollies are in a friend's pond, and that is where you noticed the problem? Are the mollies still in the pond or where are they? You did say that the pond has dried up

What are the water qualities of the tank or pond, or water they are now in?

How big is the area that they are now in? What else is in the "water area" they are in?

For now I'd say yes, treat the "water area" with a light dose of salt, but be sure not to just dump it in, as the salt can burn the fish

I'd also get yourself some Melafix (or if they are in a pond or large water area, pondfix--pond size melafix; it's cheaper and requires a smaller dose) and begin treating the water that they are in...

Also get us some water parameters, it could be something that just keeping up with water changes and all that will help...

Any pics will help us to see exactly what is wrong as well...

First of all tnx for your reply Heidi… the mollies are in my 10g tank now, I treated them with salt. Yes, the pond of my friend has dried up, I can’t get water parameter but the water quality of it is very poor. I can tell because I saw it and it’s very greenish and once overpopulated. The size of the pond, I guess 8 ft in length x 4 ft Wide x 1 ft High. He sells them all and the other died until these two fish left. He gave it to me as I stated above because he’s going to their province. Eerr… I don’t have camera for now because I gave it to my brother and his in dubai right now. BTW, tnx and I’ll try that melafix.

EDIT: they are in 10 g tank alone with filter and the water quality is fine.

OK, After posting I had reread and thought they were in a 10 gallon but wasn't totally sure:%)I've been a bit out of it latelysorry...

So you have the 2 mollies alone in the 10 gallon with just filtration? Yes, add the Melafix and I'd start doing 10-20% water changes each day to keep the water at it's best, but be sure to dechlorinate it as well...

Keep us posted on how they are doing...Best of luck, heidi

http://www.fishpalace.org/Disease.html#Cloudyeye

I found this site due to my persistent research and i'm pretty sure this is what happened to the other molly, it almost blind her and a bit swollen almost pop-eye but cloudy. And the other has maybe columnaris i'm not sure of it though, but i'll try the said potential treatment for them. Tnx heidi, i'll keep you posted...

BTW, they're doing fine in a 10 g tank and healthy feeding!

I'm glad you were able to find something that could help...just tuck this bit of information into the back of your mind, we never know when it will come in handy and someone else may be in need of it...

I'm glad to know they are doing well, and eating healthily...don't forget to vary the diet for them, as I suspect being outside they were able to get some small insects and such...fresh veggies and blood worms do fish wonders

Best of luck, heidi

Okay, heidi… I didn’t buy any of the said treatment from the site I’ve researched, because my lfs don’t have any. Instead I bought the rid-all from them. This is the product, (http://www.hongtai.com.sg/fungu.htm). And I believe it cured a bit of white spots, it’s almost four days now. The cloudiness of their eyes is still there, and the red spots are still there, maybe I’ll try to change to another medical treats. I heard of protozin, esha exit and esha 2000, anybody tried this one? O well, if it’s effective I doubt my lfs has this meds. I’ll try finding out tomorrow. Their condition, is still fine and they eat a lot.

Sorry for not posting for a while, i observed to the treatment i gave to them.
