It depends on who you ask. I've used aquarium salt before, but currently don't. I can't tell any difference. Didn't have sick fish before, and still don't. /shrug
Keep the water parameters right and everything else works itself out, salt or not salt, in my opinion.

Some do and some don't, it's up to you.

If your tank was a cheeseburger, then some salt would be fine...

Otherwise, save it for something else. It's not needed.

Yup, I have not noticed any difference between using or not using salt. Either for healthy or sick fish.

with bettas and bettas alone, i notice the difference.

I add only the slightest amount, but it really does make a big impact.

I have to agree that salt really only needs to be used for brackish and marine fish.

For your information, fungus is a secondary infection that arises as a result from another incident so the salt shouldn't really have any effect other than on the fungus and not really on the cause of it. Secondly, as the fungus is generally from a 'wound' of some sort, it would be like adding salt to a cut.

And what kind of a difference??

i have less problems with tailrot, infection and general lethargy.

These fish have pathetic immune systems, its just rediculous. I know they are bred for colour/finnage, but somewhere along the line someone must have thought that perhaps breeding hardy fish would be a good idea too... i think that guy must have gotten the sack.

I have nothing to back it up other than anecdotal evidence.

If i don't use it, i can almost guarantee i get a case of finrot. It sounds stupid, but i do notice the difference.
