He seems o.k, and his behaviour is normal. I'm not sure why he has lost scales. Also, one of my goldfish is turning slightly silver. My brother had a goldfish once and it turned completely silver, why does this happen? |

More often than not it's because you have a fish in too small an enviornment with things they can easily crash into. Goldfish are generally a bit more active then they're given credit for, and as you said it's a large fish. You might look into rearrainging the tank or better yet getting a larger tank so that it has plenty of swimming room. The theory I've seen on goldfish losing color has to do with light. The less light the faster they go white. How true this is I'm not entirely sure, it's the answer I was given :%).
