i have two clown loaches, one keeps lying on its side, this kinda says to me that it is swim bladder disase, but could it be anything else, does anybody have any other ideas??

also i have a cold water tank with fan tails in which i recntly have lost two fish from swim bladder disease , could it be possible to cross contaminate the two tanks..

Clowns have a habit of laying on their sides...

Not all of my 35 Clowns have that habit but a few do and would appear to be dead or dying.

If your Clown stays that way you can be sure it probably is sick/dying.

The transfer of bladder disease from one tank to another is rare under your circumstances.

I happened to notice a tank at my local fish store where they had several laying on their side in the back of the tank by the plants. I pointed it out to one of the employee's and he assured me that they have a habbit of doing stuff like that...

Not believing him I went on-line and checked it out and sure enough several sites listed this behavior as typical for the clown loaches.

The swim bladder disease in my experience showed signs when the fish would swim upside down or on it's side. This happened to one of my mom's fancy tailed goldfish in her pond.

I'm sure your clown loach is fine...

Clowns do this all the time. It is perfectly normal behaviour for them - don't worry about it
