i have a 90 gallon tank with currently six fantails, and over the last few weeks we hve lost two fish from what we think may be swim bladder disease, but we are now not so sure, they have been treated for swim bladder and then with other medication when that did not seem to be working, but they died anyway. now another of the fantails is sick displaying the same symptoms...he is sat at the bottom like he is sulking, but with quite droopy fins, he seems quite bloated, and he also seems to have a black mark behind his eye and some patches on his gill...and this is exactly how the others started then rapidly their boyancey goes and then they die and nothing seems to help even with early intervention...does anybody have any idea what this could be..we are really desperate..

Could you post test results in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph,their is no cure for swim bladder I'm sorry to say, the other symtoms sound like a secondary infection.

Fish with bloat are usually the victims of Dropsy, a kidney malfunction that allows internal buildup of fluids...

I've hashed this malady out with many experienced hobbyists and none of us have a successful cure or even come close. The sickness is contageous, the reason for other fish in your tank suffering the same way.

The outcome is rather glum. By the time the disease is noticed it's already too late.

Gentamycin, an antibiotic, is sometimes tried when the fish is placed in a separate tank, but again, I have little hope it'll work.
