Hi,
a couple of my neons have these whitish-greylumps on them. A couple have it at the base of the tail, one of which is relativly big, and some others have a smaller bump on their head. I had one a few months ago that had the same thing where it had a large lump at the base of the tail for a while and then it got one on its eye and died a few weeks later. Have no idea what it is, but I know its not ich, and would appreciate any help.

thanx

Columnaris: Early signs of this disease are greyish-white marks or "patches" around the mouth, or on the body or fins of the fish. These may appear "thread-like."

Do your homework, Kitty.

the lumps definatly aren't threadlike. have tried and antibacterial and it did nothing. ph is around 7 and am not able to test for amonia or nitrates but am pretty sure ammonia would be right as (forgive my incoming ignorance) amonia levels have something to do with when you first setup a tank doesn't it? This tank has been running for a couple of years now. As for my routine I clean the filters and siphon clean the gravel, doing about a 40% water change in the process, every second week.

I don't think you are dealing with Columnaris. You MAY be dealing with NTD (Neon Tetra Disease) and there is essentially no cure. I am not an expert, nor have I had experience with this disease. All I can suggest is that you do a web search and see if it fits with what you have.
IF it is NTD it could affect other fish as well, it is not isolated to neons.

did a web search and from the descriptions and pics I don't think it's NTD but some form of tumor however that doesn't help me much as there is no cure for that either, but at least it isn't contagious.
