Hi everyone,

i picked up a male VT for my work fishbowl.. just wondering if a dark think black line on the edges (ends) of his middle fin (not good at anatomy!) mean the beginnings of fin rot.. or r can they just be coloured like that? ? He is all red...

They can be coloured like that, if it looks thick, it could be a problem, but it should be fine.

Keep an eye out.

That doesn't always mean fin rot. When I bought my newest betta he had a thin black line around the edge of all his fins, and looked a bit tattered.

I used Melafix and did small water changes (1/4) three times a week and the lines went away in about 2 weeks.

P.S: You probably don't need Melafix but if you do decide to use it as a precaution, when at your LFS make sure you're not tricked into buying Bettafix which is just diluted Melafix (for twice the price! )
