I have 5 tiger barbs and 2 green tiger barbs and I noticed that all of them swim together but one tiger barb that stays in the back just breathing rapidly? What's a matter with him and what can I do about this?

buffdaddy, I imagine there are several people who would be willing to help you, but first you need to help us by answering a few questions.

1) Have you chekced your water parameters.. ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH test results are what we need to help. If you dont have a personal test kit (which most everyone will recommend you get) your LFS most likely will test your water for you.

2) What size is your tank? Other tank mates? How long has it been up and running? Has it been cycled (this is directly related to question 1) Have you added any new fish/plants/decor lately? Have you been medicating it for any reason?

3) Thirdly, you will need to closely observe your fish, looking for spots, growths, fin or tail rot, etc. etc. Or if it displays any other odd behavior, like flicking or scratching or flashing.

If you get back to us with answers to all or at least most of these questions -- your water test results are the most important! -- we will be able to help you much more completely. The Hospital Forum may be even more help than Cyprinid Corner, but they will also require the same info above.
