what is this? | |

I'm assuming that they must also be attached to my fish as well as the structures in the tank. This has been going on for awile and I usually just wipe the glass & it comes off. It doesent seem to affect the fish except for the occasional rubbing on something as if they had an ich. I have only seen a couple of them do this. But any way the ultimate question is, what is this? how serious is it? and, what steps do I take to remedy this? My water parameters are a ph 0f 8.2, ammonia 0f 0, nitrates between 20-40, nitrites of 0. Water Temp is 86F. African Cichild 55 tank. Used to be planted until about a week ago but the fish began destroying th plants so I removed them all. The only reason the plants were in there was b/c this was originally a community tank that I converted into a cichlid tank like 6 months ago. This particular one, which I do not know the name of, grows on tank surfaces, and waves in the water, eating up microscopic debris in the water column. It is harmless, and will only grow in tanks where water parameters are near to perfect. A good sign of a healthy tank!
