The new &amp; very much improved FishProfiles.com will be published during the period 26th Jan to 29th Jan 2006.

Commencing on the morning of 26th Jan (Afternoon of 25th in the US), the site will be progressively locked down so conversion can take place. As there are tens of thousands of threads, conversion may take a while, and I cannot give an accurate estimation of downtime.

Once conversion is complete the old site will be deleted and the new site will be uploaded, though no one other than myself will have access to it until testing is complete. Once testing is complete the new site will be open to all.

There are alot of new changes, most notably:

- There has been a massive increase in security. Please note, ALL PASSWORDS WILL BE CASE SENSITIVE. Also - you must have cookies enabled to log into the new site.

- Moderators will now be assigned to specific forums. The only mods with global powers will be the Administrator role.

- Many of the smaller forums are being consolidated into the main forum set. In particular, all of the "Special Interest" forums are being merged with the most appropriate forums

- There are a few new mods that will be assigned, I will be officially contacting them shortly. I wont announce who they are until the new site is finished. Please make them feel welcome.

- The chatroom may not work during the upgrade and possibly for a few hours after. Also, premium colours may not work in chat until I can upgrade it to be compatible with the new site (should take less than a week).

- All of the sections marked as coming soon on the current site have been completed. This means we will have plant profiles, crustacean profiles and disease profiles.

- The logbooks have been reworked to be more user-friendly

- The photo galleries have been fixed

There are hundreds of other additions, fixes and improvements, but I'll leave them for you to discover

I will not be replying to any questions about the new site until it is live, as I am running very short on time.

Also I'd really like to thank Babelfish, Callatya and Koi Keeper for keeping me company during all those months of coding I'd have gone crazy by now otherwise

I don't really like the look of it..
But some of the new features will make the site run a bit better (eg, Assigning moderators to specific forums. It will make it a lot more difficult for those people who post just to cause trouble.)

The look is different, but that's the whole idea of an upgrade I think this upgrade will take a lot less getting used to than the last major upgrade, as this page is in essentially the same format as the yorange/zedanio page.

I especially like that the yorange isn't there, that was a welcome deletion.

Great work. One suggestion-on all the non-premie posts the white is overwelhming. I will probably bother everyones eyes after a while(10 minutes)

I CAN SEE WHAT I'M TYPING IN CHAT!!! YAY!!!

Thus far, everything I've used today works. Only one minor glitch. If you insert special characters such as the temperature degrees symbol (ALT-248 on my PC) then the symbol is rendered perfectly in preview mode, but not in the final post. A spurious capital "A" with a circumflex accent is inserted before the character in the final rendered post. Oh, and for some reason, it absolutely hates my using the trademark symbol (ALT-0153) ...

Oh, there's still the white text on very light grey buttons in "Post Reply". But I suspect that will be dealt with once the more major concerns of others are dealt with.

All in all, a sterling effort.

I really like the changes I've seen.. The FP pages in general seem to have more depth and the colors seem richer.

All in all, a great effort !
