Ok.. so today I was cleaning out my hamsters cage. I was looking at them and I saw that there was only 2 in there- and I have 3 hamsters. I was like oookkk.. where did the other one go. So i looked through like the wheel and stuff to make sure that maybe he was in there when i took it out of the cage.. nothing. So i started to look through the shavings.. and there he was- dead. . When I started to look closer at him- his head was gone, like it had been eaten off!!!!!  ?? do i have cannible hamsters? My mom said that maybe he died and then they ate his head- but I dont know why he died? maybe they killed him?? he was smaller than them (just a little smaller)- but that has never been a problem before. Thanks
-kristin

regular hampsters? Most hampsters should NOT be kept together (only one species of russian dwarf hampsters can be hoursed together safely). It's ok for a little while at the pet store because they're still babies, but once they get a little older, hormones start kicking in and they will kill each other. Get another cage to separate the other two immediately!

You may want to separate them anyway. They may be one of the species that doesn't get along. I had chinese dwarfs, which do not get along. Brothers, and they got along while they were young, but they started fighting so I had to separate them. Hampsters in general aren't good social creatures.

I've heard that once the males get older (hormonally so) they will turn "evil" toward each other, and possibly kill each other...I'm sorry that you had to find out the hard way...

Rodents aren't very intelligent, and they usually don't have a problem with eating each other. At work, sometimes the mice will decide that they want to kill one of their friends and eat it, even when they have plenty of room, food, water, and some boxes to play with.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.
