Tim, very nice way to sum up 2004. 2004 also saw one of the worst impacting tsunamis that has hit India, Srilanka and Indonesia. Other countries were affected by this as well.

On a lighter note, I want to thank all my friends in FP for making this such a wonderful place to be. That's wat it is for me, a place to be, I spend long hours here, reading up on the lives of other folks fishies - or as Babel would put it Shishies

I would like to thank Gary, Babel, Tim, Dotty, both Trysties, AngelZoo, Robby, Frank, Tim and all the other many many friends I have made at FP for all the fish advice and guidance, and non-fish advice and guidance they have provided to me.

2004 has been a big year indeed. Though it seems you hit on everything I know about it and more...I can't wait for what 2005 brings, though I hope it doesnt bring more war. 2004 has brought surprises in weather, more than just hurricanes and tsunamies, it has brought the warm winter which suddenly turned cold, a white christmas for a lot of texans, and record snowfalls in Ohio. I also made many new friends on this site and have learned more about fish than anything else, this year. Thanks everyone for your help and I hope you have a happy new year!

I'm sure he meant dry humor Gary. Although if you died on your 101st birthday as you claim, stale might also apply.
RIP gary, you and the valiant Frank who tried to save you.

Well, it's almost lights out for 2004, and what a year it's been!! Fishprofiles has grown in every aspect, and we continue to grow each and everyday

The site got one major overhaul that changed the face of FP and several chat overhauls to keep from crashing servers due to the tremendous influx of members and traffic this great site recieved. The addition of such features of gender and country of origin flags made it easier to reply to posts and help out other members, karma points made it to the profiles to track participation.

We've been a constant force on Aquarank and viewed at the site to beat, and for good reasons. With almost 600,000 posts and almost 9,000 registered members, this is THE premier fish discussion board on the internet. Profiles being added every day and more and more photos and input being added as well, we've got one of the fastest growing and complete profile sections anyone can speak of.

2004 has also seen the departure of some members...

Faeriana -- the misunderstood canadian who seems to have a habit of getting caught in things that aren't her fault
Bleeder -- i hope you find your way
Patrick -- knew a lot, you are missed!
Keegan -- the catfish man, fell off the face of the planet
Shearonlynn -- was AWOL for a while, and almost sort of made a comeback
Bonny -- fell off the radar
Palindat -- will miss the insight
Bucca -- the down under kitty keeper!! *sniff*
tooter fish -- haven't seen 'em in a while either
Demosthenes9 -- was active for a while then *plop*
BluePhoenix -- good luck with school
WayneTA -- his daughter commondeered the computer, so he's not allowed on anymore...
T'Ark'An'Ni Ak'Kan -- somehow disappeared?

And many others...

2004 also brought in new voices as well... Shannen/PhoneShannen/./Booger, Clownygirl, Cup o Lifenoodles, bensaf, bonke/dr.bonke, fish1, tessa38uk, theresa_M, sirbooks, sandy02, mike R, gartenzwerfe, tetra fan just to name a few..

Also the old stalwarts of the site, such as garyroland, who never fails to amuse approximately no one with his stale humor that we all find so amusing in it's own little way, Lindy who plugs away in the shadows since 2001 to keep the site in good shape, Koi Keeper for implementing new policies that have improved the site, Babelfish for all her cuteness and chat-patroling. Many a person have been helped by her both on the boards and in the chat room, where a reply in the forums would have been costly, and of course Adam, for making all this possible in the first place with his many late nights up re-writing the entire site and putting all these good features to use

Glofish were put up for sale in january, and scientists have found over 106 new species of fish in the ocean, increasing the number of life forms in the ocean to 230,000!!

In other news, global terrorism has grown at an alarming rate and no end is in sight, saddam heussein was taken into custody and his country left in ruins, several elections were held under democratic duress, an undergrond black market of nuclear weapons was uncovered, several states in America defined marrige, the michael jackson, martha stewart and scott peterson incidents, and several other issues. yasir arafat, julia child, ray charles, and ronald reagan said goodbye for the final time as well. Lately, natrual disasters such as hurricanes in florida, and the recent earthquakes make us put many people and entire countries in our thoughts...

It has been a very big year for Fishprofiles as well as the world! Please, share your thoughts and feelings on the year 2004!!

Tim

global terrorism has grown at an alarming rate

I debated this point with many people over 2004, took an active interst in the US elections, and was very grateful to Tammy for her insight

I loaned all my tanks save my fighters to a friend whilst I moved back into halls.

I got kitebuggying allowed again on the uni fields, I got a 2.1 in politics and I also started my masters.

What about Haley, with the really crazy spelled username? MIA I think...

Well, the Great FP Crash of 04 is something I'm sure we'll never forget. *still misses sig lines*

Memories...
-Babel almost losing her title as chat queen because of the IT person
-Billy mysteriously becoming a premie...
-the sims family!!! ReikoX also kinda MIA...
-Timmys dead killi
I think there's a lot that will have to go as unmentionables...

I've made the one year mark on FP this year. Found the site wayyy back in summer of 03, kinda forgot about it after my problems were solved...and then somehow I found it again and I am now an addict. And thank god. Made a lot of new friends here, and recieve a ton of help from a lot of them.

Personal Reflection...
Well I got my first job this year, at my LFS.
And the current project...the reef...biggest part of my fishkeeping hobby yet
And even though I can't be mentioned as a new member, I'm a new premie
This year I had my third and final surgery, which has come *this* close to helping me breathe through my nose like a normal person. I also developed asthma, and dislocated my elbow. But I didn't hurt my ankle Any my scar from that surgery is holding nicely

I'm sure more thoughts will come to mind when I'm not as sleepy or sick.

Nice thread Tim.

[/font]

EDIT: okay, already thinking of more things, like the quest to identify Kittens mysterious LFS baby! And excuse me if I'm wrong...but was it this year in which Cory_Di rescued the betta Lucky from the curb?
EDIT AGAIN:
Okay...thought of some more things while I was attempting to go to sleep last night...
(forgive me in advance if any of these things have been repeated...)
This year on FP, we had the opening of a new forum, ABC. Along with that, we had another contest first, the betta contest! And the winner of this contest, is another new member here at FP, JessNick. While being exposed to many of Nick's wonderful bettas, we also helped him welcome his first child, a baby girl named Hailey into the world.

For more new members, I believe Theresa_M joined at the ver beginning of this year, and has helped considerably with numerous questions on the forums. (and she's made all of considerably jealous with pics of her belted barbs and gouramis!) Falstaf, another newbie for the year, who has helped many people out when it comes to plants. Another newbie...Tryst!!! Dunno what her current username is now, but I know that one of the reasons I'm passing math is because of her help. Dextroze was around for awhile, specially during Halloween I remember, and Cols is another new guy for this year. I'm sure there's more...

Another FP change, was the way the profiles are submitted. Much easier and quicker now, thanks for that Adam.

For the MIA list...whatever happend to Pic Olio? And AggieMarine still pops in every OnCe in awhile...haven't seen him much. LittleCatJoe and SolubleFish haven't been around too much either...did LittleCaeser give up on things?

It has been an interesting year, yes it has.

I ended up having to buy a 55 gallon, because I came home one night to find my 20 gallon was all over the living room floor. Found out during that escapade that electric shock from unplugging the pump could be fun Loved my goldies and ended up losing them in the process.

Got back into teaching after 1 yr off, and went from teaching Junior High (7th-8th grade) to Elementary (3rd grade)...Enjoying it though it is a change...In turn have gotten my kids addicted to fish in exchange.

Pugperson got good news on the custody of Little Bit, but I'll let her tell that one.

Have started with Cichlids, and have finally decided to do some real aquascaping to my tanks...And finally became a premie member to the forums, though I can't remember when I found them, but know I'm going on 2 years as a member...

Made lots of new friends online, and go into withdrawals if I don't get on daily. I also consider this site a home away from home.

Sure there is more I can't think of like Ferret, but I'll add more laters...

Until laters, Tim this is great...Heidi

Let's not forget the passing of Rodney Dangerfield, Marge Schott (better known to those of us in Cincinnati OH and surrounding areas... we love her just as much as we hate her) and Bob Keeshan, better known as Captain Kangaroo.
list found [link=here]http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=338112&page=1" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]

Thank you Tim for remembering me There's not a day that I regret joining this wonderful site. From the very beginning I was welcomed into the community with open arms (Babel was the very first one to officially do so). It's great to know that I can come here to get answers to questions or problems I have about my fish, or just to get into a friendly off topic conversation. Thanks to everyone

Along with the headlines mentioned in previous posts, many changes occured in my personal life in 2004:

In February I was sitting in my dorm room one day and I got a call from my mom. She had news - she and Dad had just bought a condo :%) We moved from our house (that I'd lived in all but 3 years of my life) to the condo. It's only about 2 miles from our house, but it's quite different nonetheless. However, we've all adjusted to the move quite well and I'm enjoying my new, *bigger* bedroom.

By about April or so I had decided FOR SURE that (after a few months of thinking) I did not want to return to Muskingum for my junior year. In May I brought all my stuff home for good. In the end I wound up having to take this year off to earn some more money, then I will continue my college education at Northern Kentucky University in the fall. I should finish up an education degree within 2 1/2 to 3 years.

Of course, leaving Muskingum behind me meant leaving my friends behind as well. I went through MANY MANY tearful goodbyes with sorority sisters, members of "the crew", and all my other friends.

The summer brought quite a few good memories. Though I was working 2 jobs and one was absolutely horrid, it was a fun and carefee 3 months. Racso and I celebrated being together for a year, and hope there will be many more to come. I also got a new "toy", a 55g aquarium (complete with accessories, for free might I add ).

More recently, racso and I went through watching his grandpa slowly slip away as ALS took over his body. It was a very tiring and drawn out ordeal. Though we miss him dearly, we are glad for his sake and ours that it is over and he's in a better place. We thank all of you for your support during that time.

I had a wonderful Christmas this year. I got a lot of neat gifts, but more importantly the holiday was spent in the company of loved ones. To top it all off there was plenty of snow on the ground.

Finally, 2004 marks the true end of childhood and being a teenager for me. In February I'll officially be an adult in every aspect when I celebrate my 21st birthday. Scary

This year I made many mistakes that I learned a great deal from. I also think I grew up a lot. I moved from one phase of life to the next and had to make a few tough decisions. I even had to stand up and fight for what I believed was right on a few occassions. 2004 will always be a memorable year in my mind.

A toast, to a healthy and happy 2005, but may we not forget the impact this year has made on us; as a world, within our own countries, right on down the line to each of us individually. Happy New Year everyone.

In the beginning of 2004 I started keeping fish and without this site I wouldn't have been so successful. I went from a 10 gal with a betta to 4 tanks at home with one more to be set up and a tank at work.
On a personal level, I walked out of a 12 year relationship, leaving just about everything (including my dogs and cat, but not my fish)behind. It was a big sacrifice, but my happiness is much more important. The hardest thing was admitting how unhappy I was and actually leaving.
I had the best summer of my life, worked way too hard (70+ hours a week) and partied even harder with my girls. I got 2 new large tattoos and my nose pierced, which I have wanted to do for 16 years.
I met a wonderful man in September, didn't think it would last this long (major age difference and many miles between us), but I am taking it day by day and just enjoying the little time we have together.
2004 had its ups and downs, but I would have to say that it was more up than down for me.

What a crazy year for me, divorce, surguries, hostile corporate takeover, Stepped out of modding at FP , came back to modding at FP, custody battles, new vehicles, learned how to work on my truck, road tripping, VEGAS!!!!, met some new awesome friends, finished some college courses, developed a new outlook towards life
