Evening folks.
Im quite scared of horses, although the girlfriend is a keen rider, and it seems ive actually developed quite a taste for the whole thing.
Does anyone do the whole dressage thing? Callatya? im sure you was into horses. infact ive seen a photo of you on a horse so i know you ride.
Just interested to know.
Peace.

I used to ride horses. Never did dressage, though...

I don't ride anymore, I just fall off.

Well, my poor husband doesn't like the idea of me riding again, but I want to take it up again. Apparently it may help my back issues.

So I'm looking into riding lessons. I love horses just being around them is relaxation enough for me.

Yup, I ride. I am having a bit of a break at the moment though as I lost my special little man last June and it just doesn't feel right yet.

Dressage tended to bore me silly. I did some low level stuff but the idea of going around and around trying to become more perfect was just not my cup of tea. It is great for training though and quite challenging. Done well, it is fascinating.

Blue Hors Matinee is one of my faves for dressage

I did a bit of hacking (I think the meaning would be different over your way, over here that is showing) but ended up getting suckered in my trail riding and started aiming for endurance. If/when I get back in the saddle, that will be the way I'll go. It is a whole other version of challenging, and much more fun IMO

I used to break in and train horses and kids ponies.
I also used the horses for droving cattle, and show activities like Western Pleasure, and Trail obsticle courses. Never liked the full dressing up although the horse looked good with all the bling.

Safest place is ON the horse. The only time you get hurt is if you fall off. Don't do it.

I took riding lessons one summer. Just barely got up to cantering. I'd love to do more, but it's soooo expensive! That may change when and if my dad retires and my parents move out into the country and get horses... Now that I have some experience with animal handling and training I wonder if I could train a rescue mustang... would be very neat.

Every year the BLM rounds up mustangs and burros (technically they're feral, not wild) and auctions them off. You have to meet certain requirements to adopt them, but they are required by law to be removed from the land. More info here

Good luck with training a mustang. Select one which is wide between the eyes (more room for brains).
