I know what you mean... had to suck it in to put on my brand new pants today! ACK! It is a weird double edged sword for me... they make me sick to my stomach, but eat everything in sight! How can that be? LOL!

Yes, Di they were the Tessalon Pearls (I can't spell) I asked Dr. Haddad just a bit ago and he confirmed it...what a great doctor (also gave me enough samples of my effexor that I won't have to go without for a week--payday; and gave me samples of imitrex tabs for the migrains...was gonna give me the synthroid also, but couldn't find my dose I also used that round purple inhaler (totally forgot about it)...

Since you asked and you feel so crummy I will admit to how long I had it, just don't laugh...it was the first time I had ever had it, and didn't go to the doctor right away ]:| It began in October and I was finally able to breath, and not choke to death every time I turned around in late January early February. That was the first time I'd ever had bronchitis of any sort...I only took off one week, and that was at the point where every time I started coughing (abt. every 30 min.) I'd wet my pants, and figured I couldn't do that at school easily so I took it off. I also lost sense of taste and smell till almost May! Made life really interesting...I'd go to the bar, and people would buy me Awful, Awful drinks thinking I'd taste them, and well nope...what a joke on them Feel better Di, I'm rooting (sp? again) for you, and see about getting the Advair, and the Tessalon Pearls...Heidi

- I'm not at work for the same reason you didn't want to be at school. There is not an ounce of dignity one can maintain during one of those violent attacks. Two weeks ago I was having these 1-3 minute attacks every 15-20 minutes and all kinds of gross things happen (like, its not a good time to be eating chili and beans). Anyone who has had it bad will know what I'm talking about . Now its down to about every 30-60 minutes.

I get this every few years it seems. In the past, I would try to force myself into work and get absolutely nothing done. I would just try to recover from the exhaustion between attacks. It wasn't practical running to the bathroom for privacy (and other needs during such a violent attack). Then, some of my co-workers would yell at me to stop because they couldn't get their work done . Like I could stop an asthma attack :%)

I've been so exhausted this time, I just can't push myself to go in. I get up in the AM and stir a bit, then I'm back down trying to sleep after more breathing treatments and meds. I've been so damn tired, I haven't even been able to do much with the fish tanks, which usually, when I'm sick, I can tinker with them. Even my computer time is down.

I won't go back until I can function with reason. Also, I'll have to go to one of the plants with great frequency when I return and there are many irritants in those places, even on a good day. With my luck, I'd go back too soon, only to have to go back out again.

I feel like it might be turning somewhat so maybe that is a good sign. I don't know if I'll be well enough for Monday, but I have some hope for the following week.

How ironic! We discuss this topic, and now I am sick with... you guessed it... asthmatic bronchitis! SOOO fun! So, I am on Advair, Prednisone, and Factive, as well as Albuterol as needed. *sighs* SO much fun! What is making it even more fun is the fact that I am being checked to be sure I do not have breast cancer during this time as well. Double the pleasure! Had my first mammogram today, and I have another appointment to check my lungs again on the 31st, and then (if I am well enough), I have a biopsy on the 9th. Scarey!

I was scheduled to go for a MG and called it off when I got sick.

I hope all goes well for you with the biopsy. My aunt just went through it and they decided to remove her "tumor". It turned out benign, despite looking suspicious, so don't fret no matter what it seems like.

Aha - the local news just had a clip on about a Respiratory Virus that is not the flu, coming in significant numbers into at least one local hospital. They said it involved heavy fatigue, paroxysmal cough (meaning sudden and violent) and that it lasts for several weeks. They didn't say if it had or lacked fever. I haven't had any, but maybe that's what this is. All I know is it exacerbated my freakin asthma .

If that is the case, you should be able to get ahold of someone at the hospital or your local health department to find out more details about it, and maybe find out if there is anything else you need to be doing to get better quicker. Good luck with that one. The steroids seem to be helping me out this time around. I HATE taking them though!

Ain't that something - that's exactly how I've been. Low temp, vicious sweating, even before a specialized, 12-day dosepak was made with steroids (then I really started to sweat). Rather than the usual 6 day pak, he put me on dexamethasone starting with 4 a day for 3 days and working my way down one tab every 3 days. Today is my last of the 3 pills a day.

He claims without the temp, it is likely a virus and from what I understand, viruses can run subnormal.

Well, I'm not feeling like such a freak anymore. I thought everyone recovered from this in like, a week or two

Di, hope you're feeling better. I have asthma and get bronchitus about every 18 months. The doctor usually prescribes Zythromax as the antibiotic and some kind of cough syrup with codeine. There is also an over the counter pill called Musinex that is an expectorant. It has worked pretty well for me in the past. I'm usually sick about of 2 weeks and the cough lingers another 3 weeks after that. The codeine usually makes me sleep and sleeping on my side reduces the coughing attacks - this sometimes means sleeping on the sofa so I don't roll over on my back. Feel better!

Oh My! Sorry Susan. Silly me not realizing the virus went from my keyboard to you. I guess it is a new spin on computer virus . I do hope you feel better and don't get inflammation like I have.

Guess what I got!!!!!!!!!! I think I went to see the Dr in time (today) before it got bad. I thought I was getting a sinus infection too but last night I blew out the biggest nastiest mucus plug and feel 100% better in that area. (no more headache, achy throat or thick heavy snot...sorry for being graphic there) I can breathe through my nose!! Now to kill the bronchitis before it gets bad and maybe the 3rd cold in a month will be the last for a while.

Well, doc has me off until 2/14 now. I was hoping to go back the middle of next week and was going to push myself. My sister just told me she couldn't believe I would think about it as bad as I sound.

Add to that......a cracked rib. Yeah, you read right - a cracked rib from coughing so hard.

Doc said that the virus his ER friend spoke about on TV last week is likely what is causing all my grief. He said that with everything we've thrown at it, it should have been gone by now. He said my symtpoms match that which is being seen in the county ER. One of those symptoms was heavy paroxysmal coughing. When I asked him to explain it, he said its what you are doing - talking one minute, then erupting into a violent attack lasting several minutes the next.

Well, off to pick up a rib brace.

Man! You just can't catch a break (no pun intended)! I kind of feel a little guilty for feeling a bit better myself now. You poor thing! Sick with some mystery illness, a cracked rib, and a whole order of frozen chemicals! Sheesh! I am sending out my very best wishes for you to hurry up and get better! Don't try to push yourself... it sounds like you could use all the rest you can get! Take care!

I left work for the holidays on December 22 and have not been able to return due to asthmatic bronchitis. This thing will just not let go.

I'm wondering if anyone with asthma has had anything similar and how long it can last. I've been hacking my brains out viciously, only being able to sleep maybe an hour and a half to two hours at the most without erupting into a violent, 3 minute hack attack.

There has never been a fever and it came on kind of slow as the whether changed. I'm on so many meds (zyrtec, dexamethasone dosepak, humibid, xopenex 1.25 for nebulizer, azmacort, flonase). I was also put on antibiotic because it appeared to start infecting. I was slated to go back to work on the 24th, but even that seems too soon the way I'm doing now.

Has anyone with asthma had this? How long can it last? I've got to be drinking a gallon of clear fluids daily and nothing seems to be enough to keep things moving and open.

When I was sick my temp. was actually below normal, but I was sweating horribly. My skin felt almost sticky from it. That was all caused by the secondary bacterial infection that I ended up with though. When it was just the bronchitis my temp. was normal though. I thought it was weird at first too. When the bacterial infection set in I had a temp. ranging between 96-97.

I just had it for about three weeks. The only time you'd get a temp is if you got a secondary infection.
