Eucalpytus Oil sounds wonderful. Actually, I have just a cheapy vaporizer with the cup in it where you can put the oils. It is a blend of menthol, eucalpytus, mint and something else. It just feels good.

That's kind of what I was looking for. I thought I was some kind of freak that this is going on 3 weeks already in full bloom. I have a feeling I won't be going back on the 24th as planned.

I too started an infection, but thankfully, started antibiotics in time to get things clear again.

What puzzles me is no fever. Is this how asthmatic bronchitis usually is?

Well, if that explains why I've been on FP.com a little more than usual

Poor Di . I get the same sort of thing, usually about once a year, and usually for about a month. The worst times I've ended up in hospital on oxygen and ventolin. I just had it again recently, just before christmas, and got over it last week. Flixotide always helps me, but it sounds like you've tried stuff like that. All those inhalers can't be good for your lungs either, in the end they probably make things worse.

Sorry I can't offer you any real help, just wanted to let you know you have my sympathies. Sitting upright all night struggling to breathe and only falling asleep out of pure exhaustion is no fun at all.

Advair is the "round purple one that shoots out powder", and it is what helped me get better last April. It is basically an inhaled steroid. I have asthma too, so if I am around anything that really gets my asthma going and have an asthma attack, I leave myself open to bronchitis, bacterial infections, and pnuemonia. After last April I got a pnuemonia shot this year. Mine started out like yours and ended up with a terrible bacterial infection, and went into pneumonia. I felt like I was never going to get better, so I know EXACTLY how you are feeling. I could not even talk for the entire month of April, and missed a whole month of work. Luckily I worked for friends, so it was not counted against me. I was honestly starting to think that I was not going to get better though. I was on antibiotics, advair, and some sort of antibacterial pill (can't recall the name). I sing too, and to be honest, I still have not recovered my full range from losing my voice that whole time. I am actually a little worried right now because I am allergic to birds and had to be around them for about an hour the day before yesterday, and I am having a terrible time now. I guess all I can say is hang in there! It feels like it is never going to go away, but it will eventually. It took an entire month before I even started on the uphill side. You know it is bad when your doctor gets worried! If all else fails, ask for advair... I know for me at least I feel like it was the one factor that really gave my lungs that boost they needed to kick it. Steroids heading straight to the root of the problem was just what the doctor ordered for me. Hang in there! I hope you start feeling better soon! I know how miserable it is!

They give me ventolin puffers and prednisone (sp?) Just 5 days on the pred. gives your lungs enough healing time. Good lung Di... and get some eucalyptus oil, a couple of drops in a pot of boiling water will clear your sinuses right out.

Heidi - were those tessalon pearles by any chance - the little yellow gel pills? I haven't had those in years and didn't think to ask. I may give that a shot again.

Can't take codiene - I'm allergic to it.

Aww, go on - tell me how long. Thankfully, I work for a company with a good disability plan. Right now, I'm on disability until this clears. Tentatively, I'm suppose to go back on the 24th and would love to. But, the way I am today, actually feeling worse then 2 days ago, I don't know how realistic that is. I can see this dragging out several more weeks.

Lemme guess - 3 months (more? or less?).

The cold definitely worstened it in the last two days. My brother had to take my car and get gas in it for me and run it. I had been running one errand every other day just for odds and ends like groceries. Couldn't even do that. The minute he opened the door and the air hit me, I just choked my head off for several minutes. .

Sleep!!! I want sleep!!!!
*cough, choke, gag* *gag, snort, wheeze*

I've had it Di, and you don't want to know how long it took me to get over it I'm not admitting to how long either Here's what finally kicked mine...

After 3 batches of antibiotics...and endless inhalers...

The doctor prescribed to me these little yellow gel type pills, they are for the coughing, I don't remember what the name of them were, (but, I see him tomorrow, maybe he can tell me then) but your doctor might know from the description...and he's given me some sort of cough medicine with codein in it...Between the two, especially the little yellow pills I was able to kick it...The pills would last for 6-8 hrs if memory serves me right...

Get better, and I'll ask the doctor tomorrow what the name was...Heidi

Di, another thing you might try is Vicks on your chest. I have been dating a guy that uses it for everything (muscle aches etc) and I tried it for this last cold I've had. I have to say it really works for congestion. Normally I can't tolerate much for colds (there is an ingrediant that knocks most people out but revs me right up (nothing worse than taking cold medicine at 2am and being up all night at 100 mph)) other than Robitussin but Vicks has definately worked.

*cough*, *sniff* - I know

It got worse when the weather dropped over 20 degrees in just about two hours, 2 days ago. I guess my niece went backwards with her asthma at the same time and was up pacing all last night - the same time I was having problems. Temps will be in single digits, which isn't unusual for her, just how crazy it has been. It almost reached 60F two days ago and right now its about 10F outside.

That's usually when I get it - after a cold or flu, or sinusitis. This came on without any of that . That's Advair Diskus in the round purple thing. Its ok, but only every 12 hours I think. It gave me sores in my mouth, even when I rinsed like they said.

I had a horse once with asthma and everytime he sneezed and coughed he blew snot and half-eaten hay all over me...

Is that what yours is like??

Anyone standing around me would probably concur, except I have what I call "lung sneezes". They are the kind that come from your tippy toes and make you feel your lungs, not your sinuses were cleared. *wipes the computer screen*

I'm sorry you have that, its not fun. I get it normally towards the end of a cold if I'm not careful. My Dr puts me on an antibiotic (dioxycyclene) and prednisone (steroid)
and tells me to keep taking Robitussin. He's given me an inhaler (the round purple one that shoots out powder) a couple of times but I have trouble with it so I usually don't use it. Fourtunatley (knock on wood) with all the colds and other sickness I've had late this summer/fall/winter I didn't get it. I think I would have killed myself if I had asmatic bronchitis on top of the 2 rounds of strep throat and abcessed tonsil.

Good luck with it.

Unfortunately, both Singulair and Accolate made me swell - but good, within a few hours. I couldn't take it. I say unfortunate, because it did provide relief.

I'm wondering if the inhalers aren't having a backlash and making it worse now.

I have asthma and breathing problems, but not bronchitis. I take albuterol inhaler and singulAIR daily. The singulAIR really helps, I don't know if it's the right thing for you but I love it. THe flonase did nothing for me, and I'm also on Rhinocort and Astelin for chronic sinusitis. I've been through surgery to clear my nasal passages up but nothing seems to work, I've just accepted I'm going to have trouble breathing for the rest of my life. Hope you feel better Diane. *hugs*
