Please see the appeal by Gary Roland's wife now that he has passed on - its on page 4, posted by Frank. I thought I would make a separate post in case someone out that way hadn't gone into the other thread. If you go into that thread, look below Frank's post at mine for a suggestion to help move his stuff.

Shannen's in the state and had offered the assistance before, I can only assume that the offer still stands.

Prayers continue for Gary and his family .

Shannen, if you can help Gary's wife offload that stuff, I'm' sure a good number of people here would be willing to donate via PayPal or other means. You can keep it, sell it, whatever, but if we can collect enough to give Gary's wife, that would be very cool. She can do what she wants with the money.

The offer still stands. I will see what I can do about the tanks and stuff.

I am working in Atlanta ATM and will not be home until 2/11/2004.

I hope she can wait 2 weeks. I would be more than happy to go and help take them down.

As far as taking the tanks off her hands. I will talk to her about it.

I would be honored to have his guppies.

Edit: Frank,
If she can not wait 2 weeks. Let me know. I will go home this weekend, and go down on Sat. I wasn't going to go home because the trip is to Jacksonville and I didn't want to deal with Superbowl traffic.

My grandparents are in FL until april....would it be ok if I asked them to adopt a few guppies for me until they come back here? I hope I'm not intruding, but I would like to give them a good home. I'm willing to pay for the tank and equipment....I wish I could offer more help.

What about an auction or such then we could have the proceeds go to a chairty or something in his name. Tryst mentioned that he'd said there were sea turtles around vero beach....maybe if someone could ask Judy, in the right way of course, what he might like.

My grandparents are just outside of Lakeland, Shannen. I think they mentioned that Vero Beach was about 45 minutes to 1 hour away from their driveway. I'll call them ASAP and see if they would be willing to hold a small tank with a few gups in it for me until April. My grandfather has kept fish for many years (guppies included) so I can trust him with them. Gary mentioned that he had a lot of spare tanks lying around, so I would be willing to pay for one of them to keep the orphans.

I'll also see what I have to donate to Shannen to help pay for the 125, that is going to be the hardest part. I know how hard it can be to lose someone close....their personal things seem to serve as a constant reminder for what is no longer there. Fish tanks are probably the same, and I can imagine that maintenance and tear down especially on them would be heartbreaking for Judy.

Gary was giving me advice about breeding fancy gups, I was going to start my line in the spring when school is over.

Babel, you're right... Gary mentioned the sea turtles on Vero Beach in chat, he told me about watching them come up on the beach and how amazing it was. I think a donation to a conservation organization would be very fitting.

EDIT: Forgot to add the map:

Or... instead of giving to some charity "out there" a fund could be set up here at FishProfiles in Gary's name paying a years dues to the recipient of the "GaryRoland Most Valuble Member Award".

Or... give whatever donations you receive to Judy to use as she sees fit. We need to remember that Gary and Judy recently were hit with hurricanes to where I am sure there were lingering expenses from that. Now add to that out of pocket medical expenses and funeral expenses.

We should try to make it as easy as possible for Judy to accept whatever help can be given.

true tammy, I know they had to have the roof replaced...gary hadn't mentioned other damages, well except for the loss of the clowns and all.

Insurance doesn't always cover all of those losses either.

If I remember correctly the major part of the flooding cost was the roof, and they aren't cheep...Also the medical/burial costs are costly...I'm sure she can use the money, that is probably why she said she was willing to sale them if someone could take them...Heidi

I would like the money to go to Judy. What a rough trot. Just such a terrible time to have to live through. I would love her to have somethng tangible as a testement to what her husband meant to so many people who had never even met him face to face.
