Cally I never thought of that!

I have an entire collection of Winnie the Pooh figurines, I could have an amazing 100 acre wood tank

Never thought of that.

When I was a kid, my father made it quite clear that any non-natural aquarium decorations were highly verboten in our house....and I am much the same....even most plastic plants make me nauseous.

Well....I'm turning 19 on Feb. 10th, no kids yet but I'll still probably enjoy it as much as a 6 year old. Ariel has been my favorite disney character since I was very little, cause I love to sing, I love mermaids, and I love the water...its me, if I was a cartoon LOL

Ordinarily, I'm something of a 'natural or nothing' person, and eschew garish plastic ornaments of any sort, even those that purport to resemble real natural features (because, more often than not, they fail).

However, I can see why a "Little Mermaid" themed aquarium would appeal. Especially to anyone with a six year old daughter to keep amused!

I'm surprised that Disney don't offer figurines for this purpose themselves ... two Christmasses ago the local supermarkets were choc-a-bloc full of Little Mermaid character dolls

Hmmmm sounds like a good idea ferret! Themed tanks, best theme wins, think the members of fp would go for it?
Like you, I like natural tanks, but I don't think it hurts to have a mermaid, cause its kinda natural (in a fantasy kinda natural LOL), I'm not gonna over do it, I'm not going for a gaudy look lol.

I was searching for things to "prettyfy" my tank, I would like to find Little Mermaid things to go in there. Anyway, I came across decorations that have laser lights or something like that and they change color and blink and all sorts of things, it was a wild sight...does anyone have those in their tank?

Midnight, try CAKE DECORATING SHOPS

Most of the licenced characters have little food safe (tank safe) figurines

I've seen them, but wouldn't use them...Flashing lights tend to be one trigger to my migrains, and can't imagine being a fishy with a migraine. Heidi

I saw one in a tank at petco, and i can say they looked pretty neet.

Now, i dont think these make that much light in the tank, so i personally feel it would be ok for the fish.

At least it isnt those "lazer light shows" in the tanks.

Remember, when your heater comes on it shines a pretty big light in the tank.

1)Yes I've seen them, they're fiber-optic ornaments that are aquarium safe...

2)I wouldn't use them specifically because they vary LOTS of colors and I'm big on matching and I don't want a rainbow tank...*thinks back to ex-fiance's original design of his 10 gallon*...<blech>...

3)Mother Nature incorporates quite a few luminescent parties into her designs (e.g. DEEP-sea fishes, fireflies, and certain snails), so in theory, you could incorporate some type of fiber-optics into a natural tank...just probly not using one of the tiny fiber-optic castles...those probly won't be too realistic...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

DOn't have...and wouldn't use them either.

IMO, it seems kinda torturous. May look cool for the owner, but would you like all sorts of lights blinking in YOUR eyes? I didn't think so. >.<

Plus I like to keep my tanks looking natural, and I don't think mother nature has things like that. It's all preference though, if you like themed tanks like that, then go right ahead. I'd just prefer a chunk of driftwood.
