Looks like people would prefer to keep it a surprise until all tanks have been judged.

Thanks' for everyones input so far...still open to ideas and everyones welcome to join the chat discussion this weekend...sorry about it being midnight on a holiday weekend, I'll likely schedule a few more. This is everyones contest, I'm looking for everyones opinion.

I think it keeps the contest cleaner. No chance of contaminating the judging process.

If they see some tanks before they enter they may think 'oh well, I have no chance against those, may as well not bother'.

this is why i always said the pics should be shown all at once after they've all been entered. that way we can see what's been entered and make our own judgments on which tanks we think are the best aquascaped and compare that with the actual results of the contest.

For some people, this could encourage entry. If they see some tanks before they enter they may think 'oh well, I have no chance against those, may as well not bother'. Could go the other way too I suppose, where the lack of interaction with the contest until the end does not encourage people to go 'hey, my tank looks as good as these, I should enter'.

Maybe there could be a sticky thread in Aquascaping about the contest (as always, with the rules etc.) but that also showed some examples of past winners. This would help people looking for aquascaping ideas too.

To Show or Not to Show

The Aquascaping contest is attempting to return. There have been two chat's scheduled. One thing I'd like member feedback on is if the tanks should be displayed prior to being judged or not.

I think we should stay anonymous, adds suspense and makes everybody work harder on their tanks if they have no idea on what's coming up.

And that would make all the tanks look much more interesting.

i think it gives people an idea of what the contest is all about. the tanks don't have to be identified, but it would be a good idea to show the tanks before the final decision has been announced. i would prefer to see all the tank pics put on display all at once instead of as they come in though. it would also be nice to be able to comment on them, although that might be construed as influencing the judge's decision.
