*fish patty contemplates the high standards she has set for herself as she puts on a pair of pants & to her surprise barely gets them fastened as she mutters a "word", & then changes bracelet to the other wrist, never realizing how much she "talked" to herself. Will be very happy to get past the first 24 hrs..*

Changing ones self is the most difficult thing to do. You first have to face the things you don't like about yourself or just except them for what they are. YOU

I already listed my standards earlier, but will put them here again.

"Tomorrow is April 1st. I decided to to try the 21 day trial upon wakening. My bracelet isn't purple, but it'll do. 21 days straight without mumbling a complaining word and no gossiping and criticizing either." (the pastors standards)

" I also included that nothing but positive will come out of my mouth and my writing.
No negative noises such as growling, etc. etc..
No raising of my voice in anger or impatience. Though I am allowed to correct the dogs as long as there is no condemming or name calling.
No cursing or substitute words for it.
No giving of dirty looks on purpose.
No sarcasm that is delivered in a mean, angry or impatient way. However sarcasm for the sake of humor or having fun with others that appreciate it is allowed."

Hmmmm I thought I was messing up on using substitute cuss words, but I just noticed that part of his original description says, "without mumbling a complaining word." So I suppose that "word" I let slip out falls into his category too. So I'm not messing up by my standards, but by his. So I will no longer contemplate the standards. I will just resolve to keep my mouth shut. OR go back to a phrase I used to use, "God bless it!"

That phrase actually works! Another phrase I used to use on rare occasion just seemed to increase my anger & encourage more hostile words to come out. But when I changed to, "God bless it!", it immediately distilled the anger & put a positive spin on the situation so that my thoughts turned from negative to, "There is a positive way to handle this."

Only 4 1/2 more hrs. to go till I have reached the first 24 hr. mark!

Then only 20 more days after that..........

Well, I made it past the first 24 hrs.........that ONE time.

As it stands now I have to restart about three times a day. I think I let my guard down after I made it past that first day. At first it about drove me nuts, but I'm actually getting used to it now. The world DOES go on just fine without my critical comments about it.

It appears that this 21 day trial period is going to be more of a way of life for me for quite awhile. I noticed that these forums go back for a year. Hopefully, I will be able to resurrect this thread within that time, to announce that I made it............ for those of you that might wonder if I ever did.

I'm not a big game player, but someone was nice enough to send me a link yesterday to a simple game they found that they liked & insisted that I try it. Within one minute of starting the game I wrote them back informing them that I just had to change the bracelet over again. Obviously I will not be playing games for awhile.
